The weekend before Thanksgiving I visited the last outdoor Brooklyn Flea of the year. Among the familiar delicious eats, I noticed a new stand in the middle of the market with a cute logo and little sippy cup samples. I sidled on up to read about their drinks…and did a little happy dance. They were flavored nut milks. Vanilla and special pumpkin-spiced flavored!!! The samples blew my mind. Slightly sweet, richly spiced and so creamy. Now you’re probably familiar with almond milk – but they have cashew milks. And you may say sure ok, it’s just another nut. Nuh-uh. Cashews have a higher fat content. They’re buttery. Rich. And they make an inSANE milk.
I bought a small vanilla almond milk (also incredibly happy-making) and a bottle of their pumpkin-spiced cashew milk. I immediately started planning ways to use them in my head. So far I’ve used them in:
- Health shakes
- Chia seed pudding (recipe to come)
- Cereal and granola
They make everything more delicious. And I especially enjoy them on their own. The flavors just rock.
The following Monday I told my office about my new discovery, and while there was a sprinkling of interest, mostly there was confusion about why I was so excited about nut milk. But I’ve since ordered more, and the non-believers now understand. It’s awesome.
